GRIEF and LOSS SUPPORT SERVICES(for Anchorage and Mat-Su Areas)The services listed offer support to persons who have experienced the death of a loved one. These are low or no cost programs and many are organized by volunteers who have had similar experiences. Many churches and schools also offer grief and life transition groups which may be available to your family. Private individual, couples, or family counseling can be arranged by contacting a mental health or counseling center, or by referral from your physician. Hospice of Anchorage also maintains a list of grief counselors currently providing services. Hospice of Anchorage offers support at the time of progressive life limiting illness and with loss & grief. Lending library, literature, videotapes, & information are available. Support groups and periodic workshops and special events about grief, loss, death and dying are offered. Speakers on these topics are available to groups and organizations on request. CHILD & TEEN GRIEF SUPPORT Forget-Me-Not Grief Program for Children, Teens and the Adults Who Love Them Meets regularly on scheduled Thursdays 6:30-8:00 pm during school year (summer schedule varies) Call to set up an orientation and register. This is an ongoing peer support program for children from birth to 18 years. Children meet in age appropriate groups for sharing and activities led by trained facilitators. Children must be accompanied by an adult (parent or caregiver); an adult support group is also available while children's groups are in session.

It includes articles, book lists, items to order, links to bereavement organizations and a comprehensive, state-by-state list of local support services for children who have lost a parent, sibling, or other beloved person. In addition, parents and family members will find personal stories, essays, and resources that can help them navigate a loss. Educators, through relevant stories, readings and videos, can learn how to assist a student going through a loss. Visitors also have access to other national resources, including bereavement guides and kits created by the New York Life Foundation and Sesame Workshop.
